What is it and how does Mindfulness help?
Mindfulness is a state of being in the present moment, not living in the future or the past.
It means that you are being both aware and actively focussed on whatever it is you are doing. This is much easier if you choose to have no distractions like the radio or TV . These are often there in the background for “noise” but their presence can mean you are not fully present with what you are doing and this can increase your stress levels significantly.
When you slow down and choose to become mindful, you can observe your thoughts and your feelings from a slight distance so that you are no longer caught up in the emotion of the event.
It enables you to stop judging whether events are good or bad, right or wrong, they just are what they are.
Mindfulness allows you to fully experience the moment without life events simply rushing past you so you feel more in control of your life and make better long term decisions for yourself.
