People can often have problems at some time in their lives, with anything from difficulties with relationships, low self esteem, wanting to quit smoking, to weight problems, lack of confidence, phobias (dentists, flying, dogs, or certain foods).
There is beginning to be more recognition about the role anxiety and stress plays in our lives and how important it is to manage it for our longer term health and well-being.
Some people can also suffer from more severe issues like eating disorders (bulimia, anorexia or binge eating), grief or loss, anger issues or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), addiction or self harm which they can recognise they wish to manage better to improve their quality of life.
What can Hypnotherapy and Counselling do for me?
Hypnotherapy enables you to become very relaxed and focussed on what I’m saying to you- rather like being on “automatic pilot” when you’re driving. This allows access to the subconscious mind, where old outdated patterns of behaviour which are self defeating or outdated beliefs which are holding you back can be changed.
It can help you eliminate unwanted negative habits, like smoking or overeating, or it can improve your ability to achieve your goals.
You can be reassured that you cannot be hypnotised unless you want to be and you can’t get “stuck” in hypnosis. You are in control at all times, able to hear what I’m saying, you’re simply just very relaxed and comfortable.
Hypnotherapy & Counselling within Solution Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy will firstly lower your levels of anxiety, and secondly allow you to understand how your subconscious has learned to interpret situations (often incorrectly). Your behaviour follows accordingly. Old unwanted patterns of behaviour that cause you to lose belief in yourself can be changed and your confidence & self esteem is boosted. In fact, improving low self esteem is my speciality and I’ve helped both men and women in all walks of life over the age of 18 with success.
Usually your course of hypnotherapy will be completed successfully within 6 sessions, one per week. However, the Quit Smoking, Driving Test, Exam Fears or Interview Nerves therapies can be completed within one or two sessions.
At the end of a session people feel very relaxed, calm and usually quite surprised at the length of time that has passed while they’ve been in hypnosis.
What is Counselling or Psychotherapy?
In counselling or longer term psychotherapy sessions, we explore various aspects of your life together and the feelings connected with them, talking about things freely and openly in a non-judgemental environment – which isn’t always possible with friends or family.
In order to understand your feelings we may need to look at the past and see where they originated and developed. I use an integrative approach, combining Cognitive Behaviour, Client Centred Therapy, Gestalt, Psychosynthesis, Emotional Desensitisation Technique, Transactional Analysis and Hypnotherapy to suit you individually and together we can identify & evaluate various ways to resolve your issues or problems. You may also then be able to intervene in any recognised patterns of behaviour and begin to change associated thoughts or feelings which may have caused difficulties. We can also look at ways to manage feelings and to gain emotional resilience in the longer term.

I offer four choices for individual therapy sessions, each has advantages:
Face to face counselling. In the face to face sessions, especially where we may be using hypnotherapy, I offer a free initial consultation which gives us the opportunity to find out about each other, to see if we think we can work together and to agree an initial plan of how we want to progress, whether in a limited number of sessions or a more open ended contract. Email counselling is useful for those unable to travel or who have other commitments. It will not include a free consultation as it will be an exchange of a single email and can remain relatively anonymous. Prepayment is required via Bank Transfer. Your email can be created over a period of time and my reply will be sent within 5 working days and is able to be read at your convenience.
Telephone counselling: Calling to book a telephone session will also include an initial brief free consultation to understand the issue. This method is useful in that it requires no travelling but allows a two-way conversation over an hour ( pre-booked and prepaid via Bank Transfer).
Chat counselling via Facebook Private Messaging. Calling to book a chat session will include a brief free consultation to understand the issue . This is an interactive email dialogue in real time for one hour and requires pre-booking and prepayment via Bank Transfer. Call me to arrange if this works for you.
In each case, no matter which method you choose, you are free to identify and express your real feelings (like anger, grief, anxiety) and to explore the issues that are causing you stress. People come for counselling for a variety of different reasons- which can all be helped by having someone to share thoughts and feelings with and to learn how to manage these feelings and become emotionally more resilient.
